HERE'S LOOKING AT YOUR CANCEL
...SMITHSONIAN CANCEL THAT IS...
The Smithsonian cancel flourished through the 1970s and into the early 1980s. In fact, the first two in 1972 were not the first ones to initially come to my attention. I was investigating the Yellowstone Page with a Washington DC cancel when I came across this strange positioned Smithsonian cancel. Later while looking at an exhibit by our Society's Grace Marchese (a real exhibitionist, now don't get me wrong - Souvenir Pages only), I noticed that Gracie had one for the Yellowstone in her collection - I can't remember if she said it was on a Page or Poster. I wanted to acquire it from Gracie but to no avail. I wonder what ever happened to it and her collection?
